Last night, together with my wife, I attended the performance of ‘Dirty Rotten Scoundrels’ performed by St Austell Amateur Operatic Society.
As someone with over fifty years stage experience as an actor and Director, I have to say that this was by far the best stage production I have seen in Cornwall for many a year.
St Austell AOS have always had a reputation for staging good shows, and this further enhanced their reputation with a very professional performance, equal to anything you would have seen at the Hall for Cornwall, with excellent performances by both the principals and the rest of the cast line-up. From the opening minute the pace was maintained throughout, with slick scene changes and an energy that came to the stage and filled the auditorium giving the capacity audience a wonderful night out.
Changing my hat to that of a Cornwall Councillor, this is the type of community production that should be encouraged, and where possible supported. It is clear that St Austell AOS is a well run and friendly company, and everyone associated with this production should be proud of what they have produced.
